At a recent project of a villa at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India WPC Railings were practices for Balcony formation. All Balconies were fixed with Railings and Ceilings made out of WPC solid panels of 8 inch x 15 mm dimensions. Deepak Wood a carpentry company used this panels from HARDYPLAST to create this beautiful establishments that is going to be 100% water and termite free.

Final surfaces were designed with varnishing and wooden textures were created manually. Varnished surface was coated with a clear PU coats for a better life and uv protection. Vertical railings were created from the WPC Solid panels made by HARDYPLAST. These panels were fabricated for creating custom sized Railing formations out of WPC materials. Horizontal and vertical both members were created with a similar joinery system.

Here in this project WPC us specifically targeting natural wooden applications, which were supposed to be consumed actually. But Client’s inclination towards the nature and his willingness for not to use wood, he selected WPC as the material. Aesthetic value of this Installation is nevertheless than natural wooden installation. Overall establishment was giving a highly luxurious and premium look to villa.

A country like India with a huge scope of infrastructure development has yet to see the real pace of growth. Going to be the largest population of the world within next few years only, India will need massive quantities of natural wood and we don’t have that much!!! At the same time India is using WPC in the highest number of applications, world has ever seen.” panel discussion started by Hardik Panchal, CEO, Hardy Smith. A panel discussion created a huge interest amongst the prominent participants from all over the world counted as 900 attendees representing 356 organisation from 26 countries.

Dr J K Taylia, CMD, Echon Industries graced the panel as a Moderator with his exhaustive experience and contribution since last 22 years. Being one pioneer he consented that WPC industry’s growth has largely picked up at a good pace with variety of application and usages. Started with Hardik Panchal presentation giving an overall idea of growth and coverage of WPC Industry in the country, he conveyed a clear idea for increasing the consumption of sustainable – substitutes. WPC is one great wood substitute. Completing 10 years in the industry as a pioneer, we have seen ups and downs for material resources in the country. Largely depending on the import substitutes for wood, we are sending enough money out of the country.

Deepankar Garg, Director, Alstone said, “This is the time now to take things seriously. We influence the construction industry, its veterans, architects, interior designers, landscapers, furniture manufacturers for a large acceptance and awareness of wood polymer composites (WPC). Deepankar Garg & Hardik Panchal loudly cleared about the quality compromises going on with conventional filler addition practices and their implications. They together with Dr Taylia insisted strongly for improving the quality and standards of WPC products in the country.” During other sessions from Foreign players & Astral (Sandeep Engineer), it was a common voice for not spoiling the Vinyl Industry by selling products in weight basis (with large filler contents). They given examples of shut down units because of such wrong practices.

Dr Ajay Karmarkar, Director Technical from Konspec and Prakash Bhargava, CMD, Cooldeck also influenced on quality of WPC products being manufactured in India. They both shown their positive satisfaction about the overall growth of the industry and new products being added. Anand Mehta, MD, Five group talked about the availability of technical manpower in the country for WPC Industry. He insisted for local development and manufacturing of global standard dies and moulds within the country.

Qingdao Sanyi Plastic Machinery Company Limited from Qingdao, China was established in the year 2006. With a multifaceted set ups for technology, manufacturing, research and development, production and Sales, Sanyi is a known player from China, dedicated to PVC foam sheet lines.

Being a professional manufacturer of WPC machines from China, HEGU from Qingdao is launching low cost and high quality WPC+LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) door frames by Co-extrusion technology. It is claimed to be a more stable product than solid WPC Door frames by HEGU. A few characteristics of Solid WPC Door frames like heavy weight and higher cost can be controlled with this WPC LVL technology.

As informed by company, the inner core of the profile can be LVL wooden, MDF profile, Aluminum Profile or a steel post and the outer layer can be WPC or uPVC with 4-5mm thickness, as shown in the schematic diagram here.

Solid WPC door frames during the extrusion process foams from inside, which becomes difficult to control sometimes. In case of WPC+LVL door frame the inner core size is fixed and it is fed continuously to the extrusion. It becomes easy for machine operators to control the product quality and overall dimension. Also the 4-5mm outer WPC layer becomes easy to be controlled by the die and calibrators. So the production defective rate remains very low.

For the Solid WPC door frame cooling is very important and difficult as well from inside. Even if you increase the length of a calibrator and water tank you have to maintain the production speed at a limit of 0.3-0.5 mtr/min because of the higher thickness of the profile and higher temperature inside the product. If temperature is not controlled effectively, chances of product deformation remains after production.

For the WPC+LVL door frame, the inner is LVL core which remains at normal temperature and shall only need to be heated at the surface before feeding to the extrusion line. WPC layer is of only 4-5mm thickness, so the complete product can be easily cooled down by the calibrators and the water tank. In this case production speed also can be maintained at 0.5-0.8m/min, without product deformation.

Solid WPC Door frame is purely a Polymer foam with wood content, thus product of low density can face problem of screw holding. For the WPC+LVL door frame, the inner is high density Laminated Veneer Lumber which has advantage of high strength, high toughness, and resistant of fatigue failure caused by periodic stress and thus high nail/screw holding strength.
